‘Claylarks’ was an exhibition that took place during the London Design Festival 2022 to mark the 10 year Anniversary of The New Craftsmen. Having worked with the brand since their inception in 2012, AMD were invited to transform the showroom to help tell the exhibition story and present the makers products.

Inspired by a mudlarking trip The New Craftsmen's creative director and 15 craftspeople attended along the banks of the Thames, the exhibition aim was to celebrate how clay traditions have been developed and absorbed by craft communities, and how ceramics have been integrated into our daily lives, environments and rituals over millennia.

AMD were invited to join this initial mudlarking trip, allowing us to meet the makers and see first hand where their inspiration drew from. Using this, as well as our own experience, we decided to create a space that reflected not only the earth and mud, but the pot houses and taverns that once lined the Thames. It was also important to us to create an atmosphere, by presenting dark and light areas as well as non reflective and reflective surfaces.
