Blink Brow Bar | Westfield, London

Inspired by India

Having launched a number of successful concessions in stores such as Topshop, John Lewis and Selfridges, Blink Brow Bar approached AMD to design their first bespoke retail environment at Westfield in Stratford. Our challenge, as with any mall-like setting, was to create a memorable brand experience inside a standardised white box unit.

Our research explored the origins of threading, which we learnt is an ancient Indian craft that dates back more than 5,000 years. AMD founder Andrew Martin, who had coincidently travelled around India that year, was inspired to use the country as a reference point, using the rich earthy tones he’d seen as a nod to where threading had begun.

“India is an endless design reference, from colours and shapes to tastes and smells.”

Andrew Martin – Founder, AMD

The space itself is very narrow, so in order to give a sense of depth we finished the floor and one wall in terracotta and the ceiling and other wall in teak to add texture. Keeping the Blink Brow Bar demographic in mind, we incorporated soft tones of pink and pistachio to add a contemporary twist to the India inspired colour palate. To complete the look, AMD up-cycled industrial looking threading chairs in a cool mint leather and designed a series of bespoke fixtures and fittings including lighting bars, plant holders and iPad racks.
